Lost... and Found?

I've lost 2 expensive digital cameras to date.  Maybe one of these day's I'll take a lesson from Andrew McDonald, the Aussie who took action to ensure that, should he ever lose his camera, it could find it's way home.  How?  By keeping the following photos on his camera's memory card:

Happy Veterans Day!

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank some of my favorite US Veterans for their service to our country.  My dad (Terry, A.K.A. "Big T."), grandfathers (Bob and Clem), uncles (Steve, John, & Mike), cousin (Jason), and the father (Joel) of my absolute favorite active-duty military member (Brain).  Thank you for the sacrifices made by both you and your families in the name of duty, honor, and country!  As my friend, Dave, would say, "preash"!

Picture Perfect

After touting the talents of random strangers, I realized that I haven't yet given online props to my own friends... Silly moi!

My buddy Ryan (of Jordan Lake fame) is an avid photographer.* Before beginning anesthesia school this fall (he is in a similar program to mine, located in Raleigh), Ryan set out on a month-long expedition across the country in search of the perfect photograph. Mission: Accomplished.  Luckily for us, he created an online journal to chronicle the experience and to display some of his works for friends and family to admire.

In addition, Brain, who is also a fan of the camera, reconnected with his inner Ansel Adams while on his last deployment in Iraq.  Below are my two favorite photos!

*Funny story: While at Jordan lake, Ryan realized that he forgot to bring his camera with him to take photos of the day. I reassured him that he needn't worry, as I had my small digital camera on hand. I was a hero! It wasn't until the next day that it dawned on me: I don't think my point-and-shoot camera or novice photo-taking skills gave him the peace of mind I was going for.

Happy Birthday, Mister President

In honor of President Obama's Birthday, I thought I'd give his Flickr photo gallery a shout out. If you haven't yet perused the Official White House Photostream, you really should take a few minutes to do so. It gives you an inside look at a world that, in the past, very few were privy to. Pictures include President Obama with his family, working in the Oval Office, attending press junkets, and conducting meetings aboard Air Force One, among others. My favorite, which I've included below, is of the Blue Angels flying over the 2009 Naval graduation ceremony. Growing up with a father in the Air Force, my siblings and I spent many an afternoon watching the Blue Angels perform and, regardless of the number of times I've witnessed their aerial acrobatics, they never cease to amaze.


Oh, I almost forgot! Speaking of President Obama, I had to re-post this, which I left me breathless with laughter...


Happy birthday, President Obama! May you always maintain your sense of humor and, if that's not in the cards, may I lose mine before the secret service catches wind of this blog...

Mister Wizard

I know you all must think I am just the epitome of cool (and really, why wouldn't you?), but the truth is, I'm a big ol' nerd. So it's not surprising that I find Richard Heeks' photographs, taken of soap bubbles mid-pop, so interesting. Speaking of, did you know that bubbles actually tear? Also, did you know that the human head weighs 8 pounds?
